Drawing gets your little ones school ready. Drawing is one of the early foundations of logical thinking or abstract thought. Whether your child is still at home with you or at school already, drawing helps them prepare for understanding more difficult concepts. Learning these creative ways of thinking at an early age readies a child for future education. Provide your kids with a variety of materials to draw with, for example crayons, paint, chalk and don’t forget digital media tools too, to help them get used to the tablets and other computers that they’re sure to use frequently in the future.
Improve Focus and Hand-Eye Coordination – The act of holding crayons, choosing colors, coloring different characters, and even sharpening crayons can all help with cultivating strong hand-eye coordination in preschool-aged children. Coloring books require children to color within a specified area which will help them as they develop their hand-eye coordination.
The more the parents and caregivers make color a salient attribute, and the more that children’s attention is drawn to focusing on colors, the easier is may be for them to learn their colors. Toward that end, I have done a number of activities with my kids that are appropriate for teaching kids their colors.
For those looking for fun and clever ways to incorporate educational components, coloring and drawing both fit the bill. With younger kids, coloring can be done with packaged books and pages, matching their interests and abilities. As free-form coloring and drawing are introduced, kids nurture their creativity. In either case, learning can be introduced according to the child’s age and ability.
